Brief Company History![]() From The Beginning Our story is a real chronicle of patience, innovation and passion. It begins in 1983 when Mr. Claude Chevalier, president of The Dairy Bureau of Canada, met Dr François-Marie Luquet, a renowned French microbiologist, during a Dairy Conference in Copenhagen. As long ago as 1960, Dr Luquet, who was formerly employed by the Institut Pasteur, had succeeded for the first time, in isolating a bacterial strain of human origin; a very particular lactic culture with an acidophilus base and having therapeutic properties. Mr. Chevalier, for his part, was gaining vast experience in marketing and business management. It was only ten years later, in 1993, in Paris, in the course of a meeting between Dr Luquet and Mr. Chevalier that the plan to create a healthy, nutritious and therapeutic probiotic, from a culture of L. acidophilus and L. casei maintained alive and active in a food substrate, was born. A Montreal research team worked on developing and fine-tuning the product in research laboratories in St-Hyacinthe and at Université Laval in Québec city. The ferment and the L. acidophilus, CL1285® strain are at the origin of the Bio-K+ CL1285® formula. This unique and patented formula of L. acidophilus and L. casei was approved by the Institut Pasteur in France and by the Institut Armand-Frappier in Quebec. The Bio-K+ CL1285® formula was clinically tested and became the basis for the Bio-K+ CL1285® products line. Period of Substantial Growth This Quebec-based family enterprise has experienced sustained growth ever since it was incorporated in 1994, under the name of Bio-K+ International Inc., by Mr. Chevalier. We currently employ more than 80 professionals. Looking to the Future Our product continues to arouse enormous interest, among consumers and healthcare professionals, in Canada, the United States, Europe and elsewhere. Our products are available in health food stores, grocery stores, pharmacies and healthcare providers' offices and are distributed throughout North America. We expect that they will soon be available in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Europe. We believe that the company has a bright future and will live up to its potential. |
