Following the results of the study conducted at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, Pierre-Le-Gardeur Hospital administered Bio-K+ CL1285® to all of its antibiotic-treated patients, in order to control an outbreak of Clostridium difficile that had plagued the hospital for several months and had failed to respond to the usual treatments.

Dr Pierre-Jean Maziade summarizes: «We witnessed results as early as February. All severe cases improved. The number of patients fell by 50 percent and today, we document no more than two cases per 1000 admissions, which is 90 percent less than in the month of January. These results were never attained before, even prior to the outbreak. »

Bio-K+ CL1285® at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital
Special Biotech Insert, La Presse. October 7, 2004.

In a randomized double blind placebo-controlled clinical study conducted at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in 2004, we observed a considerable reduction in antibiotic-associated diarrhea and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea in patients that received Bio-K+ CL1285®, as compared to the placebo group. Consumption of Bio-K+ CL1285® also led to a 20 percent reduction in the length of hospitalization for patients in the Bio-K+ CL1285® group as compared to the placebo group patients.

Noting the results, Dr Serge Carrière observed that « patients treated with the Bio-K+ Pharma product experienced 56 percent fewer bouts of diarrhea than other patients and required 20 percent less hospitalization time. »

This important improvement is attributed to the unique and patented formula of Bio-K+ CL1285® of L. acidophilus and L. casei.
